🚀 LaunchPad #19: When the Internet Breaks
Cloudflare went down. And so did half the internet.
If you felt like the internet was wobbling today, you weren’t imagining it. A major Cloudflare outage took down a huge chunk of the web for a solid stretch of the morning. Everything from SaaS tools to ecommerce checkouts to random apps you forgot you still had installed suddenly decided to tap out.
Cloudflare is one of those companies most people never think about, but when it sneezes, the whole internet catches a cold. It’s a reminder of how much modern infrastructure depends on a handful of backbone companies keeping everything stable behind the scenes. A single misconfiguration, a network ripple, or a global routing hiccup can send tech teams scrambling, Slack channels popping off, and engineers revisiting logs like it’s a crime scene.
But outages like this also highlight something important for anyone working in tech. Systems fail. Tools break. Unexpected things happen. The real skill is how teams respond, communicate, and troubleshoot under pressure. Ops is no longer the quiet function in the background. It’s mission critical, and days like today prove it.
